Lisboa! Finally, I made to Portugal. After longing for Portugal for 4 years, I made it there this year finally March 2010! Hurray! Lisbon was just beautiful as I thought, just great as I read, just happy as I expected, and just delicious as I thought it would be!
I started reading the Lonely Planet book, Portugal for a while, and last year when I went to Rome I bought a book called 'Night Train to Lisbon' written by a philosopher who teaches in Germany. This novel was quite interesting start to begin tasting Lisbon a little bit. Then, I am reading Jose Saramago's 'The history of siege of Lisbon.'
In my trip to Portugal, everything was great but I also want to say the food, of course, is fantastic! I found the hostel online, this hostel is amazing. Lisbon Lounge Hostel is just spotless clean, minimalistic design everywhere, friendly staff and the CHEF! This resident chef is all about Lisbon. The chef cooks first, and we eat dinner of course, then we hang out in the lounge with music played by old LP player, or watching a movie projected professionally on the wall, or we go out to Bairro Alto.
The chef also guides us for the walking tour as well, sure, this includes free wine tasting. How can you not stay at this place? I found this place just by googling before I even knew about this place. However, apparently a lot of Korean people are writing about this place and staying here as well. Sometimes one third of the backpackers ends up with speaking Korean, and I saw some Korean there this time as well. Anyway. This interesting place offers you a fantastic dinner everyday with a great price. Perhaps, you will never have that nice three or four course meal in Ireland with this price and unlimited wine as well.
First dish is cod with breadcrumb and potatoes. The chef was quietly working on the process when we went in the kitchen. We just say Ola, boa tarde! without really knowing what he was cooking then. The dinner was the best heart-warming experience during the stay. It was alive, very refresh for my mind as well as new in some way by talking with interesting people from all around the world.
Do you plan to travel somewhere? Then, don't forget all the food you have to taste there!
